guys pioneers won against
Cleveland State.
The girls came out leading
Cleveland State by two to four
points through out the first and
second half.
Coming down to the final seconds
of the game, Cleveland State
tried to make a comeback, but
mistakenly fouling Shaniqua Gray
while making the shot to secure a
sweet victory for the Girls!
The top scorers of the game, Katie
Richardson with 19 points, Shaniqua
Gray with 14 points, Gaby
Bussell with 13 points, Heather
Miller with 11 points, and Ayla
Young with eight points in the
game.
The men's game stared off with
Cleveland State playing hard in the
first half, and taking the Pioneers off
guard with the pressure of a full court
man-to-man press, where fast breaks
were just too hard to create, especially
losing by nine points at the end if the
first half.
In the second half, the Pioneers
came out strong to take the control of
the game and catch up from the under
estimated Cleveland State starters,
by creating a higher tempo game
and breaking their defense down with
screens.
They remained about nine to 10
points behind Cleveland State, until
there was only two minutes left in the
game when the fast breaks stared to
work, therefore catching up to tie the
game at 80.
At the final seconds of the game
Carlos Woodard caught the ball and
quickly put it up for a lay up at the
same time getting a foul to put this
game away as a win in the books.
The leading scorers of the
Men's Pioneers, Carlos Woodard
with 17 points, Crechaun Holt
with 16 points, Casey Ferrell with
12 points, Jay Starks with ten, and
Robert Riley with eight points.
"I knew it was going to be a
close game, but we just came out
and did what we had to do", said
Creshaun Holt and Jay Starks
Adding to his comment, saying,
"I knew we would have to be on
top of our game. I think that we
had over looked our opponents in
the first half, but in the second we
came out and played hard".
All in all, both games were excellent
games to watch and both
girls and guys played hard for the
win! So everybody needs to come
out and support our Pioneers!

I am so glad that Vol State is on a roll. I saw one game but I do try to keep up with the stats. I am a big fan of Junior College Basketball. I also wish that games could be televised. (Continued…)
