"Lend me a Tenor" sparks laughs with audience

Ladies and gentlemen, we are once again privileged to have an operational theater at Volunteer State Community College. The first production to grace the stage since its reopening was "Lend Me a Tenor." I attended the Friday night performance on Nov. 15 with the intention of reviewing my fellow students. The comedy was incredibly well directed. The punch lines were delivered by the cast with ease and veteran timing. The audience responded well at the appropriate times and seemed very pleased by the performance.

If you have it, give it

Around Thanksgiving and Christmas, people will hear about the need to give to those who are less fortunate than themselves. Well, if you have it, why not give it? Needy families at Volunteer State Community College have signed up with the SGA for Christmas for the Kids. Students and faculty can take an ornament from the tree in the cafeteria with a child's name on it. They then would need to buy a gift and bring it back unwrapped to Wood 217 by Dec. 2.

This week I got to sit down and lend an ear to the newest release by Maine native, Ray LaMontagne. His song writing legacy is one not easily forgotten by past listeners. His reputation has grown steadily through college radio and a recent breakthrough in pop culture. LaMontagne is a songwriter of yesterday, today. It may sound confusing, but once you hear the smooth yet rigidly eloquent sound of his voice, you'll understand what that means (possibly).
