Volunteer State Community College has a new way to help students get to school and save gas.
Students can go to the Vol State student blog and leave a comment with their name, email address, location of pick up, and when they will need a ride to campus. Other students can then comment back and exchange information about carpooling to school.
"I think it is a great idea and a great gas, energy and environment saver. As long as students are careful and actually use it, it will be a great solution to high transportation costs," said sophomore Jennifer Leeman.
The idea for the board was brought up by faculty members, students, and members of Public Relations.
According to the blog, about 28 entries have been posted so far. Students have been looking for rides from Hermitage, Springfield, Lebanon and as far away as Mt. Pleasant Tennessee.
Public Relations Coordinator, Eric Melcher said the board will soon be moving to the main website, and will be more searchable and easier for students to access.
"The main thing we stress is that we don't filter [the board]. We don't do checks on anyone. These people could be anybody. You really need to be careful when you're talking to people. Make sure that it is somebody you want to ride with," said Melcher.
According to the student blog, students should ask plenty of questions before they plan to share a ride.
We did a poll earlier this summer to see how many students would be interested, said Melcher. The number was about 85 percent. .
If students have any questions, they can call Eric Melcher at 230-3570.
