I want to welcome all new and returning students to Volunteer State Community College. I hope you are as excited as I am about a year full of new opportunities and new experiences. This is your time to expand your knowledge through coursework, enhance your creativity through student activities, and establish relationships with the campus community.
At Vol State we recognize that your success is our success. Therefore, I encourage you to learn more about the many activities and services offered here on our campus. Our student groups and organizations can provide you with the opportunity for leadership and civic service. Additionally, there are a wide range of learning support services to help you in the classroom. These activities and services are here to help you succeed in the classroom, and in life. Please stop by the Student Services office to find out more about student life here at Volunteer State.
We have been working hard over the summer to prepare for the upcoming semester. Our faculty and staff are gearing up to provide more international education opportunities this year, and we are excited about the possibilities that will occur from understanding and appreciating the concept of a global society. I encourage every student to participate, in some way, in the opportunities provided by our International Education Initiative. Last year, many students had the opportunity to travel abroad to Central America and Europe. Likewise, many students benefited from attending international lectures and other cultural events held here on our campus.
We have made significant progress in improving and beautifying the facilities on our campus. The tornado recovery effort is complete, with the exception of the auditorium. We anticipate the auditorium completion to occur in December of this year. You will also notice several improvements to our campus landscaping. It is our mission here at Volunteer State to make your experience safe and enjoyable. The condition of our campus is an important part of this experience, and our staff has done a great job of fulfilling this mission by making this campus beautiful.
Every improvement to this campus is geared toward providing better service to our students. We believe that excellence is a practice and not a destination, and we truly want to provide you with excellent service and education. On behalf of the faculty and staff of Volunteer State, we are excited that you chose this institution to start, or continue, your educational journey. I look forward to an exciting year of learning and growing for all of us, and I wish you the best of luck with your classes. Nothing can stop the Pioneer Spirit!
Dr. Warren R. Nichols
