Things every freshman should know

The Financial Aid Office is located in the Randy and Lois Wood Campus Center 116. The office is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. There are many ways that the financial aid office can help students once school has already started. "Once they have already started school, if they have not processed their financial aid and they have gone ahead and paid their own tuition, they still go ahead and fill out the federal application, the FAFSA, and we can still process it.

Letter from President welcomes students back for another year at Volunteer State

I want to welcome all new and returning students to Volunteer State Community College. I hope you are as excited as I am about a year full of new opportunities and new experiences. This is your time to expand your knowledge through coursework, enhance your creativity through student activities, and establish relationships with the campus community.

Vol State makes a 2.5% budget reduction due to state of economy

Volunteer State Community College experienced a financial reduction in the budget this year, said Beth Cooksey, Vice President of Business and Finance. Vol-State's Financial Committee for this year has to work with $483,000, or 2.5 percent, less than last year's budget.

Faculty response to rental program is low

The new Textbook Rental program at Volunteer State Community College will be pushed back a semester. Textbooks for the average student can cost a couple hundred dollars a semester and can end up being a huge problem for those who can not afford them. However, a new program approved could have taken the edge off of those high textbook bills this semester.

Vol State's blog has a new board to help students save money with carpooling

Volunteer State Community College has a new way to help students get to school and save gas. Students can go to the Vol State student blog and leave a comment with their name, email address, location of pick up, and when they will need a ride to campus.

Mulcahy featured at Frist through Sept. 21

Professor of Art, Sue Mulcahy, is demonstrating her talent in an exhibit at the Frist Center of Visual Arts in Nashville, Tenn. Mulcahy has been teaching art for over 30 years and has dedicated 17 of those years to Volunteer State Community College. However, she said she has been practicing art all her life.

Exploring Southwest allows students to see some of the world

A group of 13 students and two teachers took a trip across the Southwest experiencing the excitement of travel and learning about different cultures. Keith Bell, associate professor, and Clark Cropper, instructor, took applications and had interviews with students wanting to go.

Financial aid checks available Tuesday

Students waiting on financial aid checks will be able to pick them up on Tuesday, Sept. 2. Students will need to go to the Great Hall in the Hal Reed Ramer Administration building in order to get their attendance verified. Then they will need to take their confirmation slip and a current student i.

Students can earn credit designing bus

Students can now serve on the Design Team for the new Trousdale County Mobile Learning Center and earn college credit. This fall the Department of Visual and Performing Arts is offering a special course in art that will design and paint a bus that will serve the needs of a new non-profit Mobile Learning Center.
