EDITORIAL: Remember your purpose
Lauren Day
Issue date: 4/21/08 Section: Opinion
Today's issue is the last publication of The Settler until Fall.
As Editor, I would like to thank everyone who read The Settler, wrote letters to the editor, visited SettlerOnline.com, participated in our campus-wide Easter egg hunt, left article comments, and/or voted in weekly polls.
We would also like to thank those who took the time to be interviewed or be photographed.
The Settler is published by students, for students.
Therefore, we made our best effort to make every issue of interest to the students of Volunteer State Community College.
Hopefully, you found each issue helpful, informative, interesting and timely.
We apologize for any errors made in our reporting, but we were able to grow and learn from each of our mistakes.
We continually strive to better the publication, so feel free to share your comments with us.
If you're not returning to Vol State next semester, remember that you can keep up with The Settler by logging onto Settleronline.com.
Wherever life leads, Vol State's student newspaper is only a click away.
As the semester comes to a close, it's not only the end of my term as Editor of The Settler, but also the end of my time at Vol State.
I will be moving onto a university, but the two years I've spent here will not soon be forgotten.
American politician Adlai Stevenson once said, "When you leave here, don't forget why you came."
Whether further education or a career awaits you post-graduation, remember why you initially began this journey.
What drove you to invest time and money in college?
Each and everyone of us has a goal for higher-education or we wouldn't have spent semester after semester sitting through classes, studying, working on projects and taking tests.
Be proud of your accomplishments. The diploma or certificate you will receive in a few short weeks is not just a piece of paper, it's a symbol of your purpose.
