During the summer months, Volunteer State Community College offers a diverse array of Continuing Education classes for students in third grade to adults.

"Coming from all walks of life, faculty are selected from among area professionals in business and industry, area artisans and crafts people, Volunteer State faculty and staff, and private and public school faculty," said Lisa Miller, Director of Non-Credit Instruction.

The program is paid by fees that range from $20 to over $5,000 per class. There are a few select free classes as well.

Children from grades 3 through 12 can attend summer basketball, softball and baseball camps during June. The camps are taught by Vol State's own basketball, softball and baseball coaches.

Middle school students can attend over a wide range of 20 different kinds of topics during the summer.

High school students from grades 10 to 12 can attend a theater, music and art camp on June 9 through the 12.

There are over a hundred different classes that are offered to adults during the summer.

In addition to a variety of traditional classes, the Continuing Education program offers unique classes, such as Theme Park Engineering, Latin Dance, Speed Spanish, Travel Agent Training, and Beginning Yoga.

Classes are offered in both face-to-face format and online.

Continuing Education classes are offered throughout the year.

A Talented and Gifted Students program for middle school students is on the drawing board, Miller said.

The Continuing Education program is preparing a list of classes to be offered in the fall.

"Continuing Education offers the public personal enrichment classes that provide them with expertise in a variety of areas, such as yoga, small engine repair and others," Miller said.

If anyone is interested in taking these classes, they check current offerings by going to http://www.volstate.edu/continuinged/ or call 230-3358.
