More than 60 businesses will participate in the fair, said Director of Career Placement and Cooperative Education Dr. Rick Parrent.
Approximately 1,000 students are projected to attend to this event, he added.
"It's important to say that this event is sponsored by UPS," said Parrent. "We could not do this fair without their help."
Along with UPS, there are several businesses that will be also offering their services to Vol State students including GAP, FedEx Kinko, Comcast, Car Max, U.S. Navy, U.S. Marines, U.S Army, Bellsouth, Bank of America, Regions Bank, Kroger, and more, according to the Spring Fair event guide.
Representatives from Vol State, Middle Tennessee State University, Columbia Southern University, and Tennessee Tech University will also offer information about their programs, the guide states.
"There are a great number of faculty members that have been strong supporters of this event," said Parrent. "They have been preparing their students for that day."
Among those teachers is New Skills' instructor Kathleen Dvorak who has been teaching her students how to build a resume, greeting and presentation skills.
"The focus is to give the students job opportunities," said Dvorak. "They will have the chance to show their resumes to the employees at the Career Fair."
Parrent also said he has been to 35 classrooms at Vol State teaching students what to do while meeting the businesses' employers.
"All these businesses are using their money to attend to the event," Parrent said."I want to make sure we have capable, prepared and qualified students attending the event."
"From preparing a well-written resume to teaching how to tie a tie, these students are well prepared now to have a better chance to get a job," he continued.
When asked about the advantages of the event, Parrent said that students won't have to go to 64 different businesses to look for applications.
Instead, the Career Fair will have them all in one building for three hours.
"This is a win-win situation for both students and employers," he said. "I have seen students walking out from previous events with a job."
Another advantage of the fair is that students will be exposed to showing their resumes that were actually prepared in class to employers, he said.
"There are teachers who are encouraging their students to show their resumes to employers," Parrent said. "The students will actually receive extra points depending on how many resumes they give away."
For more information, students can contact the Office of Career Placement and Cooperative Education at 230-3307, or log onto www.volstate.edu/placement. The Career Fair will be in the Richard Moore Gymnasium.
