The event took place March 14-16 at Columbia State Community College. All 14 Tennessee PTK chapters competed in the Five-Star Program, said PTK secretary Marie Kemph.
PTK is the international honor society of two-year schools. Vol State's chapter name is Beta Delta Kappa.
Among the awards received by Beta Delta Kappa, was the Chapter of Light Award which PTK implemented three or more regional activities, Kemph said.
Beta Delta Kappa also received the Five-Star Chapter Award which is the highest star level a chapter can have, she added.
"Last year, we were a Three-Star Chapter," Kemph said. "Obtaining the Five-Star Award recognition in just one year is very hard to do."
PTK also received the 2nd Place Award for Service Hallmark, also a 2nd place in the Yearbook/Scrapbook Award, 3rd place in the Scholarship Hallmark and Distinguished Hallmark awards, and two 5th place awards in the Leadership Hallmark and Distinguished Chapter President.
"I was really happy for receiving the awards because we worked really hard," said Beta Delta Kappa's President Natasha Brooks. "It was rewarding for all of us."
Beta Delta Kappa also received recognitions for participating in regional projects including Shutting out Meth, G to the Power of 3, Conquering Cancer: Continuing the Fight, Embracing our Troops, and Operation Green recognitions.
"It was a team effort," said Kemph. "It feels good to be recognized especially because we have never been officers before."
Beta Delta Kappa also won the Chandler Cheers competition. This is the first time Vol State's PTK chapter has ever won this contest, Kemph said.
"Chandler is PTK's mascot," Kemph explained. "At each regional convention, all 14 Tennessee chapters compete to win 'Chandler'", so they can keep him on their campus until the next convention. Each chapter makes up a short skit pertaining to him."
