Volunteer State Community College's Student Government Association elections are scheduled to take place today and tomorrow in the hallway in front of the Student Services suite on the second floor of the Randy and Lois Wood Campus Building.

Lindsey Overhalser is the only candidate running for SGA President, said Gina Garera, coordinator of student activities.

Overhalser, 24, said that she has been at Vol State for one-and-a-half years and is a pre-med major right now, but plans to change her major to psychology.

Originally from Georgia, Overhalser moved to Tennessee three years ago. Overhalser said that she has recently become active in SGA by serving as Secretary of Treasury.

In order for Vol State students to get to know the presidential candidate, Overhalser answered a few questions in a recent interview with The Settler.

The Settler: Why do you think you are a good candidate to be president?
Overhalser: ...I am an honest, hardworking individual who takes my responsibilities very seriously and I am constantly striving to better my self, my life, and the world around me.

The Settler: What are some things you would like to change about Vol State?
Overhalser: I think the biggest thing I would like to change is the level of involvement of the student body when it comes to the Student Government and activities in general.

The Settler: What do you feel is the biggest problem facing Vol State's students?
Overhalser: I think the biggest problem facing Vol State's students is the biggest problem facing the world in general, the effects of apathy.

We have become so immune to chaos in our lives that there are few people who actually want to do something about it, and those that do are met with great resistance either from people who profit from the chaos or from people who don't care to do something about it.
