It's no secret that our world is quickly transforming into a global society.

Long gone are the days when it would take several months to get a message to the other side of the earth by ship or caravan.

Today, one can communicate instantly with somebody 3,000 miles away with the simple click of a button.

Although we may not realize it, we are interconnected with people across the globe just by being a member of today's society.

The Settler is proud to give a big pat on the back and two thumbs up to Vol State as it was host to an international education program last week.

Five guest speakers from local colleges and universities brought to the table their knowledge of global affairs in the areas of economics, politics, and cultural environments.

Not only did the speakers have educational expertise to speak from, but also personal experience as they were native residents of countries including Russia, India, China, Iraq and the United Kingdom.

An educational opportunity of this magnitude is not necessarily expected to take place on the campus of a community college.

Vol State has proven that it is an exception to a common misconception and provided its students with the opportunity to broaden their horizons and learn about global issues facing our society.

The sessions saw a large turn out of students which is an uncommon occurrence at Vol State.

The knowledge provided during the international education program will be the foundation for tools that students will use far past their days in college.

This program was a platform for students' futures to be empowered.

Hopefully, there will be more opportunities such as this which will further prepare students for life after Vol State.
