Associate Professor of Communication and WVCP-FM station manager interviews guests on Vol State's radio station's new program, Middle Tennessee Now.

When turning the radio dial to 88.5 FM, one will hear a new program on Wednesday at 5 p.m. called Middle Tennessee Now.

Howard Espravnik, associate professor of communication and manager of WVCP-FM, hosts the program with various non-profit organization members in Middle Tennessee making appearances.

This program gives each of these organizations an opportunity to get their message out to a larger audience. The show runs approximately 15 to 25 minutes.

The process includes fulfilling a request by Leonard E. Assante, associate professor of communication and department chair.

The request was "to increase the number of community organizations we help in public service," said Espravnik.

Holly Nimmo, WVCP operations supervisor, said it gives non-profit organizations a voice that is usually limited by funding.

In addition, it gives them a chance to talk about something they view is important.

One of her goals she said is, "to reach as many non-profit organizations as possible and to get their message out. This will help make our community a better place to live."

"[The show] will not be on during the summer and it will run in the Fall based on the institutional effect by the school," said Espravnik.

The show has highlighted non-profits such as the American Red Cross, Sumner County Convention Visitors Bureau, and the Relay for Life.

This Wednesday's program will be about "Keep Gallatin Beautiful."

According to http://www.ktnb.org/affiliates/gallatin.htm, the goal of the non-profit organization is "to beautify Gallatin by increasing awareness about litter prevention and educating our citizenry to be
environmentally conscientious."

Also according to the website, it focuses on three chief areas, litter prevention, simply beautification and waste reduction.

Those interested in volunteering for the organization can contact Lynn Nystrom, executive director at 615-451-5092.
