The 2008 Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, were hosted on Feb.24 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, California.
The Oscar presentation has occurred annually since 1929 and is the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science's most famous activity, according to Oscar.org.
Oscar.com stated that Regis Philbin was the official host for this year's red carpet action.
He was joined by Samantha Harris, Shaun Robinson, executive producer Gil Cates and producer Dennis Doty.
As for red carpet fashion, off-the-shoulder dresses and shades of red seemed to be the most popular attire among celebrities.
The Academy Awards program was hosted by The Daily Show's Jon Stewart.
According to Eonline.com, the telecast averaged 32 million viewers, which was the smallest crowd ever.
Eonline.com also reported that the Oscar's main trouble was a lack of female viewers. The 2007 Oscars, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, was up across the board with women viewers.
This year's show started out with 32.3 million viewers in its first half hour, then fell to an average of 25.4 million viewers in the final half hour.
The two films "No Country for Old Men" and "Juno" came out on top with awards.
Accesshollywood.com has a complete list of winners. "No Country for Old Men" received awards for Best Motion Picture, Supporting Actor (Javier Bardem), and Adapted Screenplay. "Juno" took home the award for Original Screenplay.
The award for Lead Actor went to Daniel Day-Lewis for "There Will Be Blood." Lead Actress went to Marion Cotillard for her role in "La Vie en Rose".
According to Oscar.com, the Academy Award of Merit, which we simply know as "the Oscar," depicts a knight holding a crusader's sword, standing on a reel of film with five spokes signifying the original branches of the academy actors, writers, directors, producers, and technicians.
The Oscar weights 8.5 lbs. and is 13.5 inches tall.
The California Bronze Foundry had cast the first statuette in bronze plated with 24-karat gold.
The Academy Awards are also doing their part to "go green".
Ocar.com stated that The Academy's green initiative included several energy-saving strategies in collaboration with the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Energy used for the telecast and the red carpet arrival show were supplied by renewable wind power.
The programs, invitations, RSVP cards, parking passes and other printed materials include a minimum of 30 percent post consumer recycled content.
