To some, Spring Break may be an ordinary week but to others, it is an excuse to hit the road for a much needed escape from the norm.
Regardless of how you choose to spend your break, The Settler has put together a guide in order for you to get the most out of the upcoming week.
WHERE TO (NOT) GO
According to StudentTravel.About.com, Cancun, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, South Padre Island, Panama City and Miami have been projected among top locations for students to visit this spring.
If you're looking to avoid the crowd, it would be wise to steer clear of these areas as they will most likely be overcrowded by vacationers.
WEAR SUNSCREEN
Chances are those pasty legs haven't seen the sunlight since Labor Day. It's always a good idea to wear sunscreen, especially since this is likely your first exposure to the sun this season.
PLANNING A ROAD TRIP?
Road trips have proven to be deal breakers for some friendships. Make sure you can handle cramped quarters with your BFF before embarking on a 12-hour trip.
Secondly, put together a fun mix of music for the car. Nothing can ease tension and make time fly better than singing along to your favorite tunes.
Also, follow these money saving guidelines from StudentTravel.About.com before you hit the road.
1. Skip the drive-thru window. Instead, load up on snacks and drinks from a grocery store.
2. Look for cheaper places to stay, for example, a campground as opposed to a hotel which will be overpriced due to the season.
3. Use internet resources such as GasBuddy.com to find the cheapest gas prices for where you'll be traveling.
4. Save gas while driving.
"Turn off the AC--it hogs the gas faster than a beer-guzzling frat boy drains a keg."
Avoid pressing the gas pedal to the floor as it burns gas needlessly.
Make sure your tires are inflated to the recommended amount and don't speed. The faster you drive, the worse your gas mileage will be.
5. Plan ahead for roadside emergencies such as flat tires.
SAFETY FIRST!
A trip to the emergency room will dampen any parade. Play it safe to avoid any unwanted injuries.
