Upgrades were to include a press box, concession stand, restrooms and lights.
"It is a lengthy process. Money has to be appropriated and then you have to be sure on the designs," said Athletic Director Bobby Hudson of the reason for the project not yet being completed.
"Hopefully it will increase attendance for the games. The lights will allow us to start the games later and that would allow more people to come. It would help in recruiting players to the school because we could give them a nicer place to play," he continued.
"They are in the planning stage for now. We calculated the ground-breaking to be at the end of the season, probably in June. It is expected to take between 60-90 days to complete," said softball Coach Johnny Lynn. "We always play hard, but the improvements to the facilities can definitely help with regards to recruiting players to Vol State.
"[The upgrades] will cost roughly $500,000 to complete," said Lynn.
Despite the costs of the improvements there is support across the board.
"I am all for it. Vol State is the best community college in the state and I want both of our facilities to look great," said baseball coach Mike Crossland.
The Lady Pioneer softball team will play their first home game against Lindsey Wilson on Feb. 25 at 1 p.m.
