Guitar Hero III is unimpressive

Guitar Hero is back for its third installment on all major consoles.

The Xbox 360 and Playstation3 versions boast newer, cleaner graphics that have come to be expected in next-generation consoles.

The Nintendo Wii version seems to be several years behind its competitors.

Guitar Hero III is the worst looking game I have ever seen on Nintendo's console.

Granted the Wii doesn't have the graphical capacity of its next generation counterparts, but there are still good looking Wii games out there.

Metroid and Zelda are examples of graphical excellence on the Wii, so I know what it's capable of doing and Guitar Hero disappoints immensely.

The game play on all three versions is just what you've come to expect. Press the proper buttons in time with the music and use your star power to rock the crowd.

This version plays exactly like the previous two installments.

One welcome edition to the formula was the ability to have a friend grab a guitar and rock your way through a multiplayer career mode.

The battle mode is back as well, but this time it got a few tweaks.

While battling against a friend you can now cause one of his strings to "break", which forces your opponent to rapidly tap the corresponding button until the string is fixed.

The most dreaded of these new abilities to through off your opponents is the lefty flip, which causes the player to have to flip his guitar and play as if he were left handed.

These new additions to the battle mode are entertaining and add new strategy and depth to multiplayer.

All these things are important to the game itself, but what's really important is Guitar Hero's track list.

It does have a wide variety of different songs.

The game has 71 tracks in all, 46 of which are main set list songs, 25 that are unlockable.

Hits such as Heart's "Barracuda", The Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black" and Muse's "Knights of Cydonia" are all available for play.

There seemed to be many more current songs on this edition of guitar hero which was a nice change from the typically older songs that are usually found in the game.

Overall Guitar Hero III is a solid game.

It still follows the tried and true formula of the previous games in the series, but there really wasn't anything new.

It's getting harder and harder to become excited about a new Guitar Hero when there isn't really anything new.

This makes me wonder for how many installments of this series people will be willing to shell out $60.

But nonetheless, Guitar Hero III is not a bad game by any means.

Unfortunately, however, it's not fantastic either.

I give Guitar Hero III a 7 out of 10.
