In addition to books Volunteer State's library has a number of services that it offers.

Laptops are available to be checked out.

The entire library is also a wireless hot spot which means students are able to check out laptops and then find the most suitable place to do their work.

The laptops are not allowed outside of the library and must be returned before the student leaves.

Video cameras are also available. This service is mostly used by distance learners enrolled in speech classes.

They can check out a video camera film their speech and then send off the tape to their professor.

Students enrolled in film classes are also able to check out those hard to find movies, such as, Elia Kazan's 1957 movie, for up to two days.

The movies in the library are available on two formats, VHS and DVD.

Aside from traditional books, there is also a wealth of online books available.

At any hours of the day, a student can log onto the Volunteer State Library website at www.volstate.edu/library and access over 60,000 online books.

The books are available online in their entirety and students are even able to print pages off for later research.

Magazine and Newspaper articles are also available for viewing.

Books are also available on CD or cassette.

The library is fully staffed from 7:30 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Thursday. 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday.

"The staff is very friendly and able to help out with any of your questions," said Matt Carpenter, a sophomore at Volunteer State.

Director of Library Services Louise Kelly encouraged students to seek help.

"Don't be afraid to ask us questions, we are here to help!" Kelly said.
