Volunteer State Community College has an intramural soccer club which is advised by Daniel Kelley, associate professor of English.

The club is available to all Vol State students.

"We have about 25 people who have expressed interest, but only 15 or so who actually come to practice regularly," stated Kelley.
Kelley continued to say that he hopes the team has enough players to make it to the games and also be competitive.

"Students must have at least a 2.0 grade point average and also be enrolled for at least six hours of credit," stated Kelly.
According to Kelly, the soccer club did not have enough players to have a full team last year, but they practiced regularly and played scrimmage games with other teams.

Kelly said the club meets at Rogers Field near Station Camp High Hchool on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m. and at Drakes Creek Park in Hendersonville on Mondays and Wednesdays at 2 p.m.

"There is no cost to join this club. We receive seed money from Vol State. In conjunction to the seed money we also have fundraisers to pay referee cost, buy equipment, water, etc…," stated Kelley.

"The club or organization has to be in good standing to receive $200," stated DeWayne Carter, student government association president.

According to Kelley, the club is eager for the upcoming season. As of right now they are scheduled to play Middle Tennessee State University on Oct. 21.

"There is a possibility that they may also play UT that day also," said Kelley. "We also look to play Western Kentucky University in the fall. We haven't been working out as much as we need to. With the players' diverse schedules, it is difficult to get together as a team. We will be conditioning at practice to prepare for the game at MTSU."
