Volunteer State Community College offers a paralegal program.
According to the Vol State web site, the paralegal program is designed to educate students to assist attorneys in support of their practice of law.
Vol State is also a member of the American Association of Paralegal Education.
"The program prepares students who want to work along side attorneys," said Loretta Calvert, paralegal program coordinator.
The program offers two degrees: an Associate of Applied Science and an Associate of Science.
A full time student can complete the program in two years.
"Students should sign up for Law 100 and Law 101," said Calvert. "Classes are offered during the day, at night and on Saturday."
The program is currently working on getting online classes set up.
The Thigpen Library contains a section of volumes which are specifically for paralegal students. The Special Collection section is located in the back of the library on the first floor.
After completing the parallegal program, the job market is well open for graduates.
"The job possibilities are excellent. Students can get a job at a traditional law firm, a private company or an in house firm," said Calvert.
Students can gain a lot of knowledge and experience from the program.
"It helps with writing skills and even helps students protect their own legal rights," added Calvert.
