Fire alarms sounded and the Wood Campus Center at approximately 10:50 a.m. Wood and the surrounding building were evacuated for 10 minutes until the Volunteer State Community College Police Department declared the was safe to return.
Students and faculty alike began speculating as to what caused the alarms to sound.
"I was getting hungry. I was about to go in [the cafeteria] and get something to eat but when I sat down, the fire alarm went off… . Then I heard all of a sudden that there was a fire in the kitchen," said Ryan Barber.
Betty Biggs, a part of cafeteria staff, said, "I just wondered if it [fire] was in the kitchen. A lot of the time, our steamer will cause the alarm to go off. Of course it's not a fire, though."
According to the Vol State Police, there was no fire.
