It's baseball time again at Volunteer State Community College.
"This year's team is a lot more talented [than last's]. Top to bottom, I don't think there's any question," said Mike Crossland, head coach of the Baseball team. "Our depth in the mound is probably the most depth I've had in the nine years I've been here."
According to Crossland, there is "no question" that this year's mixed group of recruited freshmen and returning sophomores will win the conference.
"There's no reason why we shouldn't win this conference," said left fielder, John Jones.
"I'm notorious for scheduling the toughest games that I can find. I don't pad a schedule… I'm trying to get our team ready for conference," Crossland added.
This weekend, Vol State will be hosting the 2007 Junior College Showcase at Vol State's Tim Garrett Baseball Field on September 21-23. Games on Friday start at 12:30 a.m. and the games on Saturday and Sunday begin at 10 a.m.
This year's team has its good points and its bad points.
"We have some guys that are going to be able to hit the ball out of the ballpark on a regular basis," said Crossland. "We have a lot of new faces in different places and it's just going to be tested this fall."
