First dance team tryouts this week

Volunteer State Community College will be having tryouts for The Pioneer Dance Squad this month.
"This is the first year for the dance team," said sponsor Heather Harper.
"This is the first year that there had been an interest for one."
The sponsors include Harper, Stacy Womelduff and potentially another.
Some qualifications for trying out are posture, rhythm, flexibility and enthusiasm.
A potential dance team member must be a student of Vol State during both Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 semesters.
They must also be registered for a minimum of six hours and agree to follow all the rules and regulations set by the team sponsors and Vol State.
The tryouts will be conducted in front of a panel of judges.
Students trying out will be judged on the performance as well as demeanor and overall appearance.
For tryouts it is required that students wear dark shorts, plain white tank top or shirt, and conservative makeup. There will be a clinic prior to tryouts on Sept. 12 from 2-4 p.m.
"This is going to be a learning experience not only for us but for the members as well," commented Harper.
"We want the members to do the best that they can do to support the teams.
We not only want them to be involved with athletics but with student life and leadership as well.
They should also attend their classes and maintain their grades and attendance."
