Financial Aid is still available to all Volunteer State Community College students. Applying is easier than students might believe.
First, students must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, this is used to determine a student's qualification for all grants, loans, and scholarships.
The application can be found at http://www.fafsa.edu. Anyone without internet access may visit the financial aid office and request a FAFSA worksheet. Students should return the completed worksheet to the financial aid office.
"You must pay half of your tuition when you are accepted, (and) you will be reimbursed," stated Linda Tucker, financial aid assistant. "Remember there are no deadlines, as long as you apply before the end of the semester," she went on to say.
This is based on a first come first serve basis.
If financial aid is still not enough, Vol State offers work study programs to help cover tuition. A work study program is a federally funded program that provides funds for the employment of a student who demonstrates the need to continue their college education.
To be eligible, a student must be enrolled at Vol State, and complete a FAFSA application.
Students that are accepted may be rewarded up to 37 hours per week during the holiday or vacation time periods. The typical work load consists of 10 hours or less per week. Part time employment is available on campus in many different areas, such as the laboratories, the library, and the administration offices.
If students have any questions, they should contact the financial aid office in the Randy and Lois Wood Campus Center, room 100.
